A transplant from Chattanooga, TN, Grant joined the Moore lab in 2018, after getting a degree in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Ecology from the University of Georgia. His goal has been to combine his background in engineering and hydrology and passion in ecology to better understand and improve restoration techniques in freshwater wetlands and salt marshes in New Hampshire.
His research can be summed up as studying short and long-term restoration dynamics of wetland restoration projects to improve the monitoring and evaluation of restoration projects. The first part of his thesis is monitoring both ecosystem structure (vegetation, macroinvertebrates, nekton, and porewater chemistry) and ecosystem function (erosion control, decomposition, and soil organic matter development) at three salt marsh restoration sites on the Great Bay. The second part of his thesis focuses on long-term dynamics of the vegetation community at a 35-year-old freshwater wetland creation project.
If you ever need to find him, he's probably backpacking in the White Mountains, napping in a hammock by the beach, throwing a frisbee on UNH's lawns, or jamming out at a concert in Portland.
