I  specialize in Plant and Soil Microbiomes. My research is broadly focused on understanding the relationships between soil, vegetation, and disturbance on microbial community structure and ecosystem function.

My current research in permafrost investigates microbial survival strategies in intact permafrost soil using nucleic acid stable isotope probing (SIP), combined with phylogenetic and functional gene analyses, as well as chemical, physical, and process characterizations.
