I am an assistant professor at University of New Hampshire in the department of Natural Resources and the Environment. My research interests lie in how microbial communities and soil chemistry interact to affect ecosystem function.

My research in permafrost deals with how soil chemistry and biology control greenhouse gas fluxes after thaw. Towards this aim, I have used barcoded sequencing, proteomics (only semi-successfully), chemical characterization, functional assays (such as Biolog), and statistical modeling to inform the controls on CO2 and CH4 production after permafrost thaw. I hope to continue to explore mechanisms with my lab based approach, but am also excited to lead this synthesis project, where we can discover broader trends.
