Accommodations: Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center

The 2024 NEWSA will take place at the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center in Falls River, CT.

Please visit their website for more information about our weekend workshop's beautiful program spaces, comfortable lodgings, farm-to-table meals, and on-site amenities like hiking trails, swimming and boating lake, and organic farm.

Our collegial, on-site, three day, two night retreat consists of several panels each day where participants present and discuss their pre-circulated papers. Workshop participants will stay in double occupancy rooms and enjoy full meal and coffee service courtesy of the Center, as well as self-sourced evening libations.

Upon acceptance of participation, total cost of registration for participation, double occupancy room, and Center meals-- from Friday afternoon arrival with snacks and dinner through to Sunday breakfast--are as follows:

  • Tenure-track and tenured scholars: $600
  • Non-tenure track, postdoctoral, and graduate student scholars: $300
  • Scholars coming to the workshop from the African continent: $0

Travel costs to the Center are the responsibility of the participant. Additional charges apply for single occupancy room, additional nights' stays, and additional meals requests. For these additional requests or to communicate dietary needs or preferences and any accessibility concerns, please note these in your reply to your abstract submission acceptance.

While in-person attendance is highly encouraged, there there will be limited Zoom options for participation regarding understandable accessibility needs and financial constraints. Please note your potential participation concerns in your reply to your abstract submission acceptance.

Note that each NEWSA workshop and general operations run entirely on participants' registration costs as well as separate donations or "membership" contributions. We encourage those who have institutional resources such as budgets for professional organization membership to consider becoming a "member" of NEWSA to support our programming, which has also long included travel awards in honor of the late Glen Elder to support junior scholars' participation. Current tax deductible "membership" dues are totally optional and separate from participation dues and appreciated in kind at a rate of $100 per year. Please consider becoming a member today.

Upon acceptance to participate, an invoice will be sent to the email contact you provided. Participation payment is due March 20, 2024. Payment options will be communicated to accepted workshop participants.
