Tell us about your previous animal husbandry experience. I grew up on beef/dairy/and oxen farm so I have a lot of experience with large animals especially bulls. I grew up raising oxen and pulling them at various Maine fairs over the summer.
Why did you decide to do CREAM? I actually chose UNH for the fact of CREAM and the fact that the barns were on campus compared to UVM and UMAINE. I decided to take it because it gives students the ability to learn about dairy cows on their own while running a herd of their own.
So far, what accomplishment are you most proud of? Passing organic chemistry and getting a baby heifer in the CREAM class to name (go Leia!)
What are your goals and hopes for the year? Learn how to properly care for sick/injured cows from a manger standpoint and not just a veterinary standpoint.
What do you do when you’re not in the barn? I’m with friends, family or doing something crazy outside.
What is your favorite thing about your CREAM cow? She loves to cuddle with you and will let you do anything with her if she is getting attention.
