Tell us about your previous animal husbandry experience. Before UNH I didn’t have any animal experience at all other than owning a dog. Over the past 3 years I have taken a lot of hands-on classes to get my experience up!
Why did you decide to do CREAM? CREAM was not in the cards for me before touring UNH. I had never considered doing large animal work but I fell in love with the program and knew I had to do it if I got the chance.
So far, what accomplishment are you most proud of? So far I am proud of the work I have been able to do on the Herd Health Subcommittee! We’ve been able to show so many aspects of large animal veterinary care to students and soon we will be able to share it with Pre-Veterinary students that aren’t in CREAM and may not be familiar with what we do.
What are your goals and hopes for the year? My hopes for the year are to continue to improve my skills and make changes to the barn through the Herd Health Subcommittee. We have so many ideas and we hope to put them into action at some point before the semester ends.
What do you do when you’re not in the barn? When I’m not in the barn I’m usually working at a local vet clinic as a veterinary assistant, binge watching The Walking Dead or That 70’s Show, or spending time with my dog back home.
What is your favorite thing about your CREAM cow? I love that she’s an older lady at the barn so she holds her ground and doesn’t let the younger girls get in her way. She knows exactly what to do and never causes problems in the string. She also gave me the best calf ever (ily Ziggy <33).
