Current Projects<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Universal AAC data analysis for clinical usage<\/strong><\/h3>\nThe purpose of the project is to use the matching\u00a0 learning algorithms of video and audio recognition to develop solutions for data collection and data analysis in AAC speakers. We hope that the system will be used by both AAC users\/their families, and practitioners, ultimately to improve their quality of life.\n
Effects of practice type on speed and accuracy of accessing a high technology augmentative and alternative communication device<\/strong><\/h5>\nThe purpose of the project to investigate the effect of using two practice conditions when people learn to use high technology AAC systems. The pilot study will focus on abled participants’ performance to understand the typical learning process.\u00a0\n
Developing Mandarin Chinese Core vocabulary-based AAC intervention<\/strong><\/h5>\nThe lab has been working on establishing Mandarin Chinese Core vocabulary lists and conducting clinical case studies in the United States, Taiwan, and China. We continue to look for potential collaborators for this topic.\n

Previous Projects<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Focus group study: How AAC users understand data collection\/analysis, and privacy<\/strong><\/h5>\nThe project follows Dr. Chen’s previous work that related to AAC manufacturers’ attitudes and perceptions on those topics. The purpose of the project is to understand AAC users’ attitudes, perceptions, and expectations of the language sampling process, and how they expect practitioners to use their language data to help their needs and protect their privacy.\u00a0\n
Learning effect of the latest AAC displays and encoding methods of AAC systems<\/strong><\/h5>\nThe purpose of the project is to evaluate the latest high-tech AAC systems in their displays and encoding methods and use an eye tracker to evaluate the learning process of users.\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
