{"id":19,"date":"2023-08-09T18:59:21","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T18:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/postdocs\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2025-08-15T16:57:51","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T16:57:51","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/postdocs\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p>The University of New Hampshire Postdoctoral Association (UNH PDA)\u00a0was established in 2019 and is a\u00a0volunteer based\u00a0organization that\u00a0supports\u00a0the community of postdoctoral scholars here at\u00a0the University of New Hampshire.\u00a0Our goal is to work with the broad community of postdocs and the administration at UNH to address research and university policies that affect the lives of postdocs and their families. We organize events to promote\u00a0postdoc involvement\u00a0in\u00a0academic, social, and cultural issues.\u00a0\u00a0The purpose of the\u00a0UNH\u00a0PDA is to address the needs and concerns of\u00a0all postdoctoral scholars by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Building a community of postdocs<\/li>\n<li>Providing representation\u00a0for our members\u00a0to the administration of UNH<\/li>\n<li>Advocating for constructive changes in the research environment<\/li>\n<li>Providing\u00a0opportunities to obtain the\u00a0skills\u00a0needed\u00a0to\u00a0secure\u00a0fulfilling careers within or outside of academia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Current Executive Committee (2025)\u00a0<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Co-Presidents\u202f- <strong>Katherine Adler &amp; Matthew Ferby<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Communications Chair &#8211; <strong>Masoumeh Gharaati<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Orientation \u202fChair\u202f- <strong>Aakriti Garg<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Responsible\u202fConduct of\u202fResearch Representative \u202f- \u202f<strong>Xueting Sun<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Social Events Chair &#8211; <strong>Katherine Adler<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Mission Statement<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The\u00a0objective of the\u00a0UNH\u00a0PDA\u00a0is\u00a0to support and enrich the experiences of postdoctoral researchers at UNH\u00a0as both mentors and mentees.<\/li>\n<li>The focus of the UNH PDA shall be to provide\u00a0academic\u00a0support,\u00a0professional training, career development\u00a0opportunities\u00a0and to create a postdoctoral community.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0UNH\u00a0PDA will act as a liaison to the postdoctoral population at large and represent postdocs&#8217; interests to the UNH Graduate School, UNH Research Office, and to the Schools and Offices of the University of New Hampshire.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0UNH\u00a0PDA seeks to encourage inclusion and diversity among all postdoctoral scholars at UNH and will advocate on their behalf to achieve a supportive and enriching environment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Membership<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The UNH PDA considers individuals\u00a0eligible for membership\u00a0if they meet all the following criteria:\n<ol>\n<li>They have received a doctoral degree (or equivalent)<\/li>\n<li>They are appointed to a temporary period traineeship at UNH<\/li>\n<li>They are receiving\u00a0advanced training needed to pursue\u00a0their\u00a0chosen career path<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Individuals can become members by emailing\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:post.docs@unh.edu\">post.docs@unh.edu<\/a>\u00a0and requesting membership.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Social Media Policy<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unh.edu\/marketing\/social-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNH Social Media Team<\/a>\u00a0has established\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnh.edu\/it\/about\/guidelines-policies\/index-standards\/social-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">standards, guidelines, and resources<\/a>\u00a0for UNH organizations. The UNH PDA strives to follow UNH Social Media&#8217;s standards and best practices.
