Parker Gassett is a graduate student of Ecology and Marine Policy at the University of Maine, Orono. His research and practitioner focus surround partnership development and environmental decisionmaking. Current projects include: regional coastal acidification monitoring and support for citizen science engagement; along with place-based environmental literacy for issues of marine climate change. Rapidly changing Arctic conditions are leading to emergent challenges and opportunities for social and environmental sustainability in the Gulf of Maine. Charting dynamic geopolitical, economic, and environmental transitions for the Northeast can benefit from a contemporary lens of crossdisciplinary and team science pedagogies. Parker incorporates these methods in his work to expand adaptive capacity for environmental change at a municipal scale. Operationalizing variability and trends in near future Arctic circumstances is important in this context for the science governance interface throughout Maine’s coastal communities.
