TO JOHN ABER&#8217;S WEBPAGE<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>John Aber has recently retired and is now University Professor Emeritus at the University of New Hampshire.\u00a0 He was a faculty member in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment from 1987 to 2021, with a joint appointment in the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space.\u00a0 He also served as Vice President for Research from 2003 to 2007, and Provost (Vice President for Academics) from 2009-2013.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Aber&#8217;s Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. degrees are all from Yale University.\u00a0 He has also taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1978-1987), and the University of Virginia (1977-1978), following a post-doctoral year at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.\u00a0 He was a Charles Bullard Fellow at Harvard University in 1996.\u00a0 In 2003, Dr. Aber was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. \u00a0In 2012 he received the Wilbur Cross Medal for excellence in academic achievement from Yale University, and from 2010-2012 served on the University Council (advisory to the President), while chairing a review of the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.\u00a0 He was named a Distinguished Professor at the University of New Hampshire in 2003, and was awarded a University Professorship in 2009.\u00a0 In 2017 he recieved a Lifetime Achievement Award from USEPA Region 1.<\/p>\n<p>He has written a basic text in his field (<em>Terrestrial Ecosystems<\/em>, 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0edition published by Academic Press) and is co-editor and author of\u00a0<em>Forests in Time: The Environmental Consequences of 1000 years of Change in New England<\/em>\u00a0(Yale University Press).\u00a0 He is also an author and co-editor of &#8220;<em>The Sustainable Learning Community: One University&#8217;s Journey to the Future&#8221;,\u00a0<\/em>a presentation of the breadth and depth of sustainability activities at UNH, and\u00a0<em>Restoration Ecology: A Synthetic Approach to Ecological Research\u00a0<\/em>(Cambridge University Press)<em>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>He has co-authored more than 200 scientific papers, and in 2003 was listed by the Institute for Scientific Information as one of the top ten scientists internationally in terms of publication impact in the field of Ecology and Environmental Science for the preceding decade.\u00a0 His H-Factor rating (2021) is 115 (115 papers with 115 or more citations).<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Aber is currently publishing essays on weather, climate
