Caroline earned her PhD in May 2025. She graduated from the NRESS program, studying the southern pine beetle (SPB, Dendroctonus frontalis<\/em>) as the beetle’s range expands northward. This range expansion, due to warming winters, provides many novel research opportunities. Caroline’s PhD work includes chemical ecology, early detection of SPB infestations using UAVs (or drones), and SPB risk management.<\/p>\n

Caroline also completed her MSc in the Garnas lab in July 2019, and she earned her BS in Environmental Science from Dickinson College in 2017. Her masters research focused on quantifying reproductive success of the southern pine beetle (SPB) as well as richness and abundance of SPB predators, competitors, and fungal associates as SPB moves north of its historic range.<\/p>\n

Caroline is now an assistant professor of forestry at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.<\/p>\n
