The expo hall showcased cutting edge educational and recreational opportunities in STEM. The event also featured seminars by experts in STEM-related fields. Attendees ranged from young children to individuals interested in pursuing advanced degrees.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"401\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/bigorniaresearchlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/120\/2024\/10\/1_WickedSTEM_Group.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/bigorniaresearchlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/120\/2024\/10\/1_WickedSTEM_Group.jpg 401w, https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/bigorniaresearchlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/120\/2024\/10\/1_WickedSTEM_Group-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Bigornia was a featured speaker at the event. The focus of his presentation was the relationship between diet and brain health. His research has linked Omega-3 fatty acid levels with <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30200655\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cognitive function<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/26936135\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">depressive symptoms.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"398\" height=\"223\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/bigorniaresearchlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/120\/2024\/10\/2_WickedSTEM_Speech.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/bigorniaresearchlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/120\/2024\/10\/2_WickedSTEM_Speech.jpg 398w, https:\/\/sites.usnh.edu\/bigorniaresearchlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/120\/2024\/10\/2_WickedSTEM_Speech-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our booth showcased the Veggie Meter<strong>\u00ae<\/strong>. This device is a research tool used to measure skin carotenoid levels. Carotenoids are pigment compounds found in a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. The device utilizes pressure-mediated reflection spectroscopy to detect these pigments in our skin. It is currently used in the <a href=\"https:\/\/chanasprojectunh.weebly.com\/\">College Health and Nutrition Assessment Survey<\/a> (CHANAS) study at UNH.
